Black and Gold seeks to reach .500 HCAC mark

Manchester University continues 2015-16 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday, Jan. 2.

Game details: Tipoff time is 4 p.m. inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on MU's campus … Live audio, statistics and video can be accessed via a link at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: In a game that saw both sides throw haymakers at each other on the scoreboard Dec. 30, host Trine used a 9-0 run over the final 1:18 to overtake the Black and Gold (4-6 overall, 1-2 HCAC). MU opened the game by scoring 13 of the first 15 points and then saw the Thunder go on a 16-1 stretch of their own to grab the advantage. TU opened as large as a 10-point cushion in the second half, but the Spartans scored the last four points of regulation and held the home team scoreless over a three-minute span to force an extra session. When the smoke cleared, freshman guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) had compiled a 29-point night, hitting 12-of-17 field goal attempts to lead the scoring column, while senior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) added 18 to go with six rebounds, and senior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) finished with 10 points … Johnson, who has risen into the conference's top 10 in scoring, enters the weekend on a roll, having registered two 20-point-or-more efforts in the last three games that's helped his scoring average zoom up two points (13.6-15.6). Three other Black and Gold players are among the league's top five statistically. Brown leads the three-point conversion category, hitting at a 53.8 percent clip, while junior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) is third in rebounding (7.5 per game), and sophomore forward Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is fourth in field goal percentage (60.8 pct.).

Franklin Set: MU's women host the Grizzlies, while the men make the southern trek to Spurlock Gymnasium Wednesday, Jan. 6. Start times are 7:30 p.m. at both sites.
