Overtime thriller goes way of Trine

ANGOLA, IND, - Freshman guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) compiled his second 20-point-plus effort in the last three contests, guiding Manchester University Wednesday, Dec. 30.

In a game that saw both sides throw haymakers at each other on the scoreboard, host Trine used a 9-0 run over the final 1:18 to overtake the Black and Gold 76-73 in overtime at Hershey Hall. MU (4-6 overall, 1-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) opened the game by scoring 13 of the first 15 points and then saw the Thunder go on a 16-1 stretch of their own to grab the advantage. TU opened as large as a 10-point cushion in the second half, but the Spartans scored the last four points of regulation and held the home team scoreless over a three-minute span to force an extra session.

When the smoke cleared, Johnson had compiled a 29-point night, hitting 12-of-17 field goal attempts to lead the scoring column. Senior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) added 18 to go with six rebounds, and senior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) finished with 10 points. The junior guard combination of Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) and Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) put their names at the top of the rebounding (Brouwer - 11) and assist (Casteel - four) categories.

MU begins a span of eight games in the first month of 2016 Saturday, Jan. 2. Earlham College comes to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 4 p.m. tipoff.

NOTE: Johnson's recent scoring streak has seen his season average benefit. He's up two points (13.6-15.6) in the span ... Brouwer's seen the same residuals on the glass due to grabbing better than seven boards over the last three outings. It's shot his season marks from 5.1 to 5.9 per contest.
