Spartan Shorts: MU enters the week coming off a hard-fought 81-78 loss at Rose-Hulman Feb. 7. The Spartans, dipping to 5-16 overall and 4-10 in league play, were led by the duo of junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) and sophomore guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.), as Casteel knocked down 26 points, and Brown ended with 24. Senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.) added 10 points to complete a trio of Black and Gold players ending in double digits. Freshman guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) turned in a strong afternoon, too, with seven points and a team-high six assists, while Casteel joined junior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) to share the team's rebounding lead (six) … The Spartans' 13 three-point buckets at Terre Haute marked the fifth time this season and third time in the last five games they've hit 10-or-more … Casteel's point total, his third 20-point-plus compilation of the season, moved him into season double-figure scoring at 10.3 points per game, and Brown gathered his seventh 20-point-plus contest of the year … Brown and Dolezal are each in the HCAC's top 10 scoring-wise with Brown's 17.6 points-per-game average ranking fourth-highest, and Dolezal's 13.8 ppg mark sitting 10th. Sophomore guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) is in the same scenario in regards to overall (53.2 percent – No. 6) and three-point (44.1percent – No. 4) field goal accuracy as well as blocked shots (.8 pg – No. 8). Other MU top 10s belong to Brown (free throw accuracy – 83.3 percent – No. 8) and Jackson (assists – 3.5 pg – No. 6) … The Black and Gold, looking to sideline a current four-game skid, are tied for eighth on the conference standings chart with Franklin College … The Ravens took the opener in this year's edition by a 98-77 count in mid-January at AU's O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. AU holds a three-game win string in the series, but, in four of the previous seven seasons, it's been a split decision.
