Spartan Shorts: Men – Three members of the 2014-15 team are on impressive individual streaks. Junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) harbors a string of five straight double-figure scoring games. His season average is a team-best and personal season high 15.2 points per game, as he's recorded two of his three 20-point-plus contests in the roll. The junior also has a strong streak of five successive outings in which he's made five-or-more field goals. Sophomore guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) has reached double digits in three straight appearances. His season scoring average is up better than four points (4.0-8.4) in the period. Fellow sophomore guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) has a similar string intact, due in large part to resuming a run of four straight games with multiple made three-point baskets. His average is up nearly a point-and-a-half in the span (10.4 – 11.7) … MU (2-12 overall, 1-6 HCAC) opened their two-game weekly slate with a 98-77 loss at league rival Anderson Jan. 14. For a third straight game, the Spartans put three players in the scoring double-figure category. Brown tallied 21 points on an eight-of-13 effort from the field and hitting on five-of-six charity tosses while corralling a team-leading nine rebounds. Casteel and Brouwer added 13 and 15 points, respectively, as they combined to drain four three-pointers … Due to those recent successes, Brouwer is in the conference top five in overall (56.9 pct.) and three-point (48.8 pct.) field goal percentage, ranking fourth and second, respectively. Brown's season points' average is just out of the same area, ranking seventh, while senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.) has the third-highest assists average at 3.5 per contest. Brouwer is also seventh in blocked shots (.6 pg) as is Brown in free throw accuracy (80.4) … The meeting with Hanover begins a stretch in which the Black and Gold play four of their next five at home. In the current series trend, the Panthers own a four-game win streak over MU but, going deeper into the history, in four of the last six years it's been a story of season splits.
Bluffton Games: MU's men host the Beavers, while the women make the trip east Wednesday, Jan. 21. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
