Manchester University resumes a nine-game January schedule with a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Transylvania University Saturday, Jan. 10.

Spartan Shorts: The Spartans (2-10 overall, 1-4 HCAC) seek to end a five-game skid. MU nearly did so in their first game of the week, battling Franklin College to a 91-82 final at home Jan. 7 … Several strong points did emerge from the hard-fought clash versus the Grizzlies. The Black and Gold registered their best field goal percentage since early December, hitting at a 54.7 percent clip, while their nine three-point buckets marked the eighth time this season they've canned eight-or-more in a game. Individually, the junior-sophomore guard combination of Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) and Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) resumed their recent strong roll, too, with Dolezal hitting in double-figures for the 21st time in his last 23 games behind a personal season-high 27 points and Brouwer tossing in 21 points for his second 20-point-plus outing of the year and his second double-digit total in the last three games. Junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) added his name to the top individuals' list by recording his third successive double-figure contest (15 points) … Brown and Dolezal remain the conference's scoring top 10 with Brown ranking seventh (15 ppg) and Dolezal ranking eighth (14.5 pg). Brouwer continues to rise up the league's field goal and three-point accuracy charts. His 58.5 overall mark is third-best, while his 45.5 effort from outside the arc is fifth-highest, while Brown's 42.1 percent long-ball accuracy ranks seventh. Senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.), like Brown, is part of two category top 10s (assists – No. 6 – 3.5 pg) and blocked shots (T-10th - .5 pg) … MU has won seven of the last 11 against the Pioneers including a split a year ago as each team won on its home floor.
Anderson Battles: The first of two sets of contests against league rival Anderson University are Wednesday, Jan. 14. The women host the Ravens at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, while the men travel to AU and O.C. Lewis Gymnasium for 7:30 p.m. tip-offs at both sites.
