Franklin home clash continues busy January

A span of nine games for Manchester University over the first month of 2015 continues Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Game specifics: Tip-off time, inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, is 7:30 p.m. … Live audio, statistics and video can be accessed at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: The duo of junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) and sophomore guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) has etched itself into the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top five. Brown, due to six double-digit scoring outputs in nine appearances, is tied for fifth in scoring (15 points per game), while Brouwer, behind seven games in which he's hit 50 percent or better from the field, is fourth in field goal percentage (56.2). Brouwer's 43.3 percent effort from outside the arc is just one slot shy of the conference top five, too … The tandem and their Spartan teammates hope to put an end to a four-game skid Wednesday. Despite the squad's 2-9 overall and 1-3 league marks, they've proven to be tough customers with four losses being decided by five-points-or-less and another being only 10 at the final buzzer … Brown and Brouwer are part of a strong scoring trio for the Black and Gold. Junior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) is between Brown's 15 and Brouwer's 10.4 points per game marks with a 13.4 ppg average. Fellow junior forward Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.) isn't far removed, either, averaging 8.7 points and a team-high 5.7 rebounds per outing … MU has won six of the last nine in the series including a 2013-14 season split in which each team was victorious on the other's home court.

Transylvania Trip: The Black and Gold take a southern sojourn to Lexington, Ky., Saturday, Jan. 10.
