Spartan Shorts: The trio of junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.), junior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) and sophomore guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) guide the Spartans (2-8 overall, 1-2 HCAC) into Cincinnati. Brown and Dolezal are one-two in scoring, carrying averages of 14.9 and 14 points per contest, respectively, while Brouwer stands at 10.6 ppg. Fellow junior forward Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.) is just below double-digit scoring at 9.6 ppg. Brouwer (55.9 pct.) and Schrock (53.6) are one-two in field goal percentage, while Schrock's 5.9 boards per contest top the squad. Senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.) joins the quartet with team leads in assists (36) and blocked shots (five) … Brown is fresh off his first career double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Brouwer (14 points) and Dolezal (10 points) also chimed in double-figure scoring outputs in a 68-65 loss at Finlandia University of Michigan Dec. 29 that opened the week. Dolezal's effort marked the 22nd time in his last 23 appearances that he's tallied point double digits … On the current HCAC statistics report, Brown is in the top 10 of scoring (No. 6) and three-point field goal percentage (No. 8 – 42.2), while Brouwer is fifth in field goal percentage, Dolezal is ninth in scoring and Schrock is seventh in rebounding. Jackson is also among the top 10 in assists, as his 3.6 per game average is sixth-highest … The series has been fairly even over the last 10 seasons with the Lions holding an 11-10 edge.
