The first of four meetings against members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association members opens Manchester University's 100th year Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Spartan Shorts: Coach Brad Nadborne's team concluded its preseason slate with a 74-50 loss at the hands of NCAA Division III Indiana University – Purdue University – Fort Wayne Nov. 14. MU gave the home-standing Mastadons all they could handle in the first 20 minutes, Behind the red-hot three-point shooting of junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) and senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.), the Spartans held as large as a four-point lead (17-13) less than eight minutes in. However, IPFW utilized a strong pressure defense, speed and transition offense over the final 10 minutes of the opening frame and into the second stanza for a 45-12 surge that turned a three-point deficit at the 10:18 mark of the first half into a 30-point bulge in the second half. Brown turned in 13 points and two steals, while fellow junior Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.) topped the Black and Gold offensive chart with 14 points. Other top numbers for Manchester University came from junior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) (seven rebounds, two assists and two steals); freshman guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) (two assists and a blocked shot); and junior forward Brock Armstrong (Logansport, Ind.) (two assists) … The Spartans face off against fellow MIAA members Calvin College Nov. 25, Kalamazoo College Nov. 29 and Trine University Nov. 30 as part of their non-conference schedule … Manchester University looks to end a pair of brief season-opening skids during their northern trek. Their last win in an overall opener occurred versus Concordia University of Illinois, inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, to begin the 2011-12 slate and the most recent victory in a first road trip was at Kalamazoo during the 2010-11 season … Nadborne's squad picked up 32 points on the HCAC preseason coaches' poll, released late last month, for an eighth-place standing. They were just 11 points behind Franklin College, in sixth, and eight back of Bluffton University of Ohio for seventh. Dolezal, Schrock and sophomore forward Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) represented the Black and Gold in the "Players to Watch" section.

Home Opener: Wright St. – Lake comes to North Manchester for a 6 p.m. start Saturday, Nov. 22.
