LONDON, ONTARIO, CANADA – Junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) and sophomore guard Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) each configured double-figure scoring outings, leading Manchester University in its Canadian excursion finale Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Brown, adding to an already-strong experience north of the border, tallied 11 points with dishing out three assists and grabbing four rebounds. His three treys also lifted the Spartans. Brouwer added 10 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.
Fanshawe needed every bit of the exhibition game to track down the Black and Gold on its home floor. MU got out to a 26-21 halftime lead, but the hosts took advantage of a 17-3 rally in the third period and held off a Spartan comeback in the late stages for a 54-48 decision.
Other strong numbers for Coach Brad Nadborne's squad came from senior guard Caleb Jackson (New Castle, Ind.) who was a force on the glass with 13 boards; junior forward Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) who ended just shy of a double-double behind seven points and eight rebounds; and freshman forward Trey Qualls (Elkhart, Ind.) who tallied six points, seven rebounds and a steal.
Manchester University returns to exhibition play Friday, Nov. 14, when it takes on NCAA Division I opponent Indiana University – Purdue University – Fort Wayne.
