Spartans Stopped by the Battling Beavers

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester football team lost to the Beavers of Bluffton University at Burt Field by a score of 26-14 on Saturday November 2. The Spartans fell to 2-6 (1-4 HCAC) following the hard-fought loss.

Bluffton jumped out to an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Spartans rallied back in the second quarter.  Senior quarterback Austin Roberts (Indiapolis, Ind./North Central) got the Spartans on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown run. Later in the second quarter, Roberts completed a touchdown pass to receiver Brian Antoine (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast) that gave the Spartans a one-point advantage at 14-13.

Bluffton regained the lead right before halftime and added another score in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

For the Spartans, senior Alex Downard (Indianpolis, Ind./Cardinal Ritter) totaled 135 yards in the air after completing 12 passes of his 23 attempts. Running back Donavan Henderson, Jr. (Hollywood, Fla./Hollywood Hills) ended the game with 131 rushing yards.

Manchester will hit the road next week, traveling to Defiance College to battle the Yellow Jackets. Manchester topped Defiance in non-conference play earlier this season by a score of 52-21. Kickoff for next weekend is set for 1:30pm.
