INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Manchester University was well represented on Monday afternoon as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its annual award winners for baseball. Eight total Spartans gained recognition from the league, including four being named All-HCAC First Team.
Seniors Tyler LaFollette (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw) and Braxton Riley (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) both garnered first team all-conference honors on Monday. LaFollette led the Spartans and ranked third in the HCAC with a .393 batting average. Tyler ranked fifth in the conference with 53 hits and posted season totals of 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 26 RBI, and 31 runs. For his career, Tyler is among career leaders at Manchester in at-bats, hits, batting average, triples and walks. Braxton Riley finished fifth in the league in batting this season with a career-best .371 average. In conference games this season, Braxton hit .429 (27-63) with 20 runs and nine RBI. Riley ranks third all-time in MU history with 88 career walks.
Matt Pritz (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) and Michael Pinarski (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) also earned All-HCAC First Team honors on Monday. Pritz hit a career-best .286 this spring with five doubles and 14 RBI. In conference action, Matt hit .326 (14-43) and had an on-base percentage of .400. Michael Pinarski was MU's everyday shortstop and saw action at pitcher this season for the Spartans. The sophomore finished the season with five doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI, and nine stolen bases. On the mound, Pinarski threw 34 innings and struck out 23 batters. His four saves in 2019 ranked third in the league and are tied for fifth all-time in a single season in Manchester history.
The Spartans had two players named to the All-HCAC Second Team on Monday. Junior Nick Rush earned second team all-league honors after batting .329 (47-143) this spring. Rush led Manchester and ranked second in the league with 44 RBI. Nick hit four home runs this year, highlighted by a grand slam in a 17-10 win over Hanover College. Rush also totaled 13 doubles, good enough for sixth in the conference rankings. Sophomore Brett Kron (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) hit .389 (21-54) once HCAC play began and posted an on-base percentage of .500 against league foes. For the season, the All-HCAC second teamer hit .282 in 30 games.
Pitcher Austin Kresl (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC honors on Monday following a strong first campaign in a Manchester uniform. Kresl finished with a 6-3 record this season to lead the Spartans and posted an ERA of 4.69. Austin's six wins tied him for second-place in the conference rankings. He threw 67 and 2/3 innings and totaled 44 punch-outs.
Senior John Magers (Noblesville, Ind./Lapel) rounded out the all-league honors on Monday as he was named to the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship Team.
