FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College Grizzlies took both games of Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Manchester Spartans. Franklin won game one by a final score of 13-4. FC rallied to take the second game of the day by a final score of 9-5.
Game 1 – Franklin 13, Manchester 4 – Box Score
The Grizzlies overcame a four-run deficit by scoring five runs in the home half of the fourth inning and added six more runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Spartans 13-4 in game one.
Nick Rush drove in his 30th and 31st runs of the season with a two-run single up the middle in the top of the third inning. Manchester's offense added two more runs on double from Braxton Riley that scored Joe Henschel and Brett Kron. Rush and Riley both finished with two hits at the plate.
Franklin scored the next 13 runs in the game to seal the victory.
Ben Sprinkle replaced the Franklin College starter, Jordan Clark, on the mound and allowed just two hits in 3.1 innings of relief. Sprinkle got the win and improved to 3-1 on the season.
Game 2 – Franklin 9, Manchester 5 – Box Score
A five-run eighth inning helped propel Franklin College to a sweep of Saturday's HCAC doubleheader. Franklin led 3-0 before the Spartans went ahead 5-3 in the fifth. Five runs in the eighth inning put the Grizzlies ahead late 9-5.
Franklin's Nate Stonebraker did not allow a hit in five innings of relief. Stonebraker struck out seven Spartans.
Manchester fell to 3-5 in HCAC play this spring. Franklin College improved to 16-10, 5-3 HCAC. MU will host Defiance College on Tuesday April 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
