CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Host Wabash College swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Manchester University baseball team on Tuesday afternoon. The Little Giants improved ran their win streak to four games on Tuesday.
Game 1 – Wabash 11, Manchester 9 - Box Score
The Little Giants jumped out to an early, big lead and held off a furious rally by the Spartans for an 11-9 win in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Wabash scored the game's first nine runs, however the Spartans battled back, scoring the game's next six runs.
Leading 9-6, the Little Giants added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Manchester rallied for three runs in the top of 9th before Kevin O'Donnell recorded the final out of the ballgame.
Both Tyler LaFollette (Warsaw, Ind. / Warsaw) and Christian Smith (Indianapolis, Ind. / Mt. Vernon) both went 3-5 at the plate. LaFollette doubled twice and drove in a run. Smith tallied two RBI in game one. Four other Spartans collected two hits and Manchester University as combined for 15 hits.
Game 2 – Wabash 11, Manchester 8 - Box Score
In the second game of the day it was the Spartans who raced out to an early lead. Manchester led by as much as five before the host Little Giants used a seven-run 4th inning to wrestle control of the game.
LaFollette, Nick Rush (Terre Haute, Ind., Terre Haute North), Hunter Freeman (Fort Wanye, Ind. / Carroll), and Joe Henschel (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) all tallied two hits in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. LaFollette added another double and two RBI. Rush hammered his second home run of 2019 in the 2nd inning.
Wabash improved to 7-7 on the season. Manchester (2-11) will host Heidelberg on Thursday March 21 at Gratz Field at 4:00 p.m. Thursday's game is a makeup of Monday's postponed contest.
