UPLAND, Ind. – The Manchester University baseball team dropped a non-conference, road matchup at NAIA-affiliate Taylor University on Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans narrowly edged Manchester 4-3.
The Spartans built an early lead over the Trojans, scoring runs in the top of the 2nd and 4th innings. Isaiah Knight-Neraasen (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider) singled through the left side that scored Nick Rush (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute, North). Knight-Neraasen scored on a wild pitch in the 4th inning.
Taylor scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd and one run in the home half of the 4th.
The Spartans battled back in the top of the 8th inning. A leadoff double from Matt Pritz (LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte), a sac bunt and a ground out by Brett Kron (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) pulled the Spartans within a run at 4-3. MU was not able to tie the game.
The Spartans will now prepare for a three-game weekend series with Heidelberg. MU will travel to Ohio on Saturday March 16 for a doubleheader with the Student Princes. Game times are set for Noon and 3 p.m. Heidelberg will then come to North Manchester on Sunday March 17. Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at Noon.
