INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Manchester University baseball team dropped a 9-6 non-conference contest to DePauw University. Saturday's game was played at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis. The second game scheduled for today was canceled due to the cold temperatures and incoming rain.
The Tigers struck first on Saturday morning in the top of the 3rd. Nick Nelson hit a two-run home run to deep left center. The Spartans immediately rallied with a pair of runs in the home half of the 3rd. Braxton Riley (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Wayne) doubled down the right field line that scored Michael Pinarski (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen). Riley later scored in the inning on a wild pitch.
Nelson gave DePauw the lead again in the top of the 5th as part of a three-run inning for the Tigers.
After getting a run back in the 5th, Manchester scored three runs in the home half of the 6th to take a 6-5 lead.
The Tigers answered right back in the visiting half of the seventh with two runs to retake control of the game, 7-6. DU would add two insurance runs in the top of the 9th.
Both teams will meet tomorrow at Noon in Indianapolis for a doubleheader. Both games will be played at Bishop Chatard.
