INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Senior left fielder Eric Knepper (Bremen, Ind.) clouted a pair of home runs in game one, while fellow Class of 2018 team member Brandon Eck (Fort Wayne, Ind.) fired a solid pitching effort in the nightcap to lead Manchester University Saturday, March 10.
Knepper's two bombs, highlighting a three-for-three, three-run-scored, two-RBI line, aided a solid mound performance from the trio of seniors Stephen Pinarski (Goshen, Ind.) and Garrett Phelps (Covington, Ind.) and junior John Magers (Noblesville, Ind.). They combined to surrender just one earned run on five hits while striking out four DePauw University Tigers as part of a 5-3 win.
Eck went six innings, allowing only eight hits and three earned runs over six innings to join Pinarski at 2-0 on the year. The Black and Gold's 9-4 victory, MU's third straight to up its record to 5-3, had plenty of offense to go along with it at Bishop Chatard High School. Knepper and junior second baseman Christian Smith (Fortville, Ind.) compiled two RBI each, while junior right fielder Tyler LaFollette (Warsaw, Ind.) wound up with three hits.
The weekend set between the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and North Coast Athletic Conference foes continues Sunday, March 11, with a single nine-inning game. First pitch is 12 p.m.
