Spartan Shorts: MU (10-9 overall, 4-2 HCAC) sports a three-game win skein after sweeping Bluffton University in conference play March 29 and 30 … Three Black and Gold players wound up with five-or-more hits in the set led by freshman first baseman Tailur Szarenski (Bluffton, Ind.). Szarenski compiled six hits which included two doubles and two home runs as part of a sterling .462 batting average and meteoric 1.077 slugging percentage. Junior outfielder Kyle Norris (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior shortstop Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.) ended with five hits each … Szarenski, behind his weekend totals, moved his current on-base and hitting strings to eight straight games … Norris' .397 average through 19 games is fifth-best in the conference, while Kimm is the league leader in home runs (five) … The Spartans' pitching staff was highlighted by seniors Josh Copp (Sharpsville, Ind.), Temujin Sery (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Dylan Padgett (Kirklin, Ind.). Copp picked up two saves to wrap up the Sunday sweep firing three innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts, while Sery moved his mark against the HCAC to 2-0 with a complete-game, nine-strikeout gem in Saturday's opener. Padgett added eight innings of seven-strikeout ball and didn't surrender an earned run in game one of the Sunday twinbill … Sery's 36 strikeouts to date are fifth-highest in the HCAC. Copp is part of a five-way tie for second with two saves … The series history couldn't be much closer over the past eight seasons. Manchester University holds a slim 12-11 advantage in the span which includes the two league rivals splitting their contests last season.
