Spartans take first of two Illinois treks

A set of eight events looks to improve upon their NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships performance list standing at North Central College of Illinois' Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday, May 10 and 11.

Meet details: Competition begins at 11 a.m. Thursday and 2 p.m. Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on NCC's campus in Naperville, Ill.

Spartan Shorts: MU's scheduled competitors are senior Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) in the discus; sophomore Austin Jones (Lapel, Ind.) and senior Kara Breuckman (Crown Point, Ind.) in hammer throw; and junior distance runner Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind.) in the 5000 meters Thursday, while junior Justin Meredith (Shelbyville, Ind.) takes aim at the long and triple jumps; senior sprinter Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) goes off the line in the 100 and 200 meter dashes; and sophomore distance runner Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) races in the 1500 Friday … Wappes' school record 4:38.39 clocking last weekend at Indiana University's Billy Hayes Invitational jumped her into the national top 50, as she sits No. 49. Cauhorn's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship winning toss of 139 feet, eight inches at Rose-Hulman April 21 is among the top 30. Hollis leads the way for the Black and Gold men's team on the list, ranking among the top 150 in the 100 (No. 113 10.96 seconds) and 200 (No. 138 – 22.19 seconds) … Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Brian Cashdollar's squads conclude the regular season Wednesday and Thursday, May 16 and 17, at North Central's Gregory Invitational.
