SEYMOUR, IND./DEFIANCE, OHIO – Manchester University earned a fifth-place finish at the Hanover College men's Spring Invitational and was third in the field at the women's Defiance College spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday, April 7-8.
First-year student-athletes Cody Loucks (Goshen, Ind.) and Dillon McFaddin (Bedford, Ind.) carded similar 36-hole totals of 188 at Shadowood Golf Course. Their numbers left them tied for 28th in the 49-player field. Junior Connor Labedz (Aurora, Ill.) was far off a top 30 individual effort, either, taking 31st (172). Coach Tara's Boone team edged fellow Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University for fifth, carding a 688 over the two days.
In the Buckeye State, cold weather forced the event to be reset to 18 holes Sunday. The Black and Gold's 378 score was just a stroke shy of runner-up honors, as North Central College of Illinois wound up at 377. Northwestern University of Ohio was less than ten strokes in front of them for the top spot (369).
Four individuals were among the top 10 at Auglaize Country Club. First-year student-athletes Taylor Erfman (Brookville, Ind.,) and Kaitlyn Cook (Monticello, Ind.) tied for seventh with matching 94s, and fellow first-year player Danielle Pegg (Wabash, Ind.) and senior Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) tied for ninth with 95s.
MU's men and women hit the links again Saturday, April 14. They each host their spring invitationals at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash, Ind.
