Love, freshman duo lead Black and Gold

SOUTH BEND, IND. – Manchester University returned to its 2017-18 schedule in non-conference action Thursday, April 5.

The Spartans faced off against National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic foe Bethel College of Mishawaka, Ind., capturing four victories between the men's and women's squads. Freshmen Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and Avis McGovern (North Vernon, Ind.) combined for a number two doubles decision and claimed singles' triumphs at number three and four, respectively, as part of a close-knit 6-3 loss to the Pilots in the women's match-up. Senior Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) gained a straight-set victory at number four singles highlighting the lone point for interim coach Dr. Wendy Hoffman's men's side as part of an 8-1 defeat.

MU's men, dipping to 0-4 overall, begin 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition Saturday, April 7. They travel to Richmond, Ind., for an 11 a.m. battle against Earlham College at Richmond HS' courts. The Spartans' women's team concludes its campaign at 5-8.
