Ray Hedstrom '69 was honored with the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's Meredith Payne award at the association's Hall of Fame event last month.

The award annually recognizes the top track and field/cross country meet official in the name of the legendary Indiana High School track and cross country official. Hedstrom's career resume is remarkable. He's served as an official for both sports in each of the past 44 years with 128 tournament assignments; 14 state meet assignments which include three times each as a starter and referee; and was the 2004 Indiana High School Athletic Association's designee for the National Federation of High Schools' track and field Official of the Year award.

"I enjoy officiating because it keeps me involved with a great sport, and I get to work with so many outstanding athletes, coaches, and great people," he noted. Hedstrom's also well-known at Manchester University as the voice of Spartans' football and men's and women's basketball in regards to his role as public address announcer.
