Sixth-place finishes for the men and women were the outcomes for Manchester University on the 2017-18 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason polls, released the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5.

Coach Gerad Good's men's program, harboring back-to-back double-digit win campaigns and league postseason tournament berths, earned 43 poll points. St. Joseph University, Transylvania University, Rose-Hulman; and Anderson University in front of the Spartans. Junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior forward Kenny Doss, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) took spots on the Players to Watch section.

For Coach Josh Dzurick's women's program, the Black and Gold registered 41 points to tie Defiance College for sixth. Perennial power Transylvania University was first followed by defending champion Rose-Hulman, Bluffton University, Hanover College and Franklin College before the MU/DC tie. Junior guard Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind.) was noted in the Players to Watch section.
