A three-meet October set begins Saturday, Oct. 1, for Manchester University.
Meet details: MU's men and women are part of a large field for the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The meet also serves as Division III pre-nationals with the venue welcoming the 2016 national championships in November … According to Coach Geoff Lambert, 48 men's and women's teams will be part of the Silver races which the Spartans are part of. Those events begin at 12:45 p.m. for the men and 1:30 p.m. for the women. "The course has a couple of hills and some rolling areas for the men and women," Coach Geoff Lambert said. "If it's dry it runs fast, but if it rains it can hold water. We'll have to see how things work out Saturday with our races being the final of six (for the day)."
Spartan Shorts: Taking a look at the beginning of a span which includes the Oberlin College of Ohio Interregional Rumble Oct. 15 and the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Oct. 29, Lambert noted that the program's focus is on improvement. "We want to see both teams improve from the Indiana Intercollegiates to now," he said. "It's about what we can control. We need to be better than our last race, as we had a couple of good weeks of practice, so it's time to mentally focus and prepare for this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do." … In their most recent outing, seniors Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) led the way. Jordan registered her third Indiana Little States top 10 mark in route to picking up her second HCAC Runner of the Week honor this fall and eighth of her career, and Gudeman wound up sixth to guide the men, the third successive meet in which he's been the squad's low finisher … MU breaks from competition after the Classic until Saturday, Oct. 15, when they're in the field at Oberlin College for the Interregional Rumble.
