Manchester University takes aim at team and individual honors Friday, Sept. 16, during the annual running of the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
Meet details: The women's open 5k race begins at 3 p.m. followed by the men's open 8k at 3:30 p.m. The women's championship 5k is slated for a 4:40 p.m. start, and the meet will be concluded with the men's 8k championship at 5:15 p.m. In total, there are 21 teams competing in the event including Division I opponents Ball State, Evansville, Indiana State, IUPUI and Purdue … Host venue is IU's Championship Cross Country Course in Bloomington.
Spartan Shorts: It's the first of three larger field meets for Coach Geoff Lambert's squads leading up to the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Following the Indiana Intercollegiates, the Spartans compete at the Greater Louisville Invitational which serves as a pre-nationals event for Division III programs Oct. 1 and then go to Oberlin College of Ohio for its Interregional Rumble Oct. 15 … MU's women are coming off a team title and individual championship for senior Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.), while the men were runner-ups, and senior Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) captured the individual top spot Sept. 10 at Hanover College's Madison Kiwanis Invitational. Gudeman and Jordan were both feted by the HCAC Sept. 12 for their efforts … Results were strong for the Black and Gold at last year's Indiana Intercollegiates. Jordan was the highest-placing Division III athlete, taking fifth, while senior Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.) ended 11th in route to a fifth-place team effort. Senior Thomas Dean (Bremen, Ind.) led the men, taking 12th, as they wound up ninth on the team standings.
