NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The trio of freshman outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.), sophomore middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) and sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Barmes (Greenwood, Ind.) turned solid attacking numbers for Manchester University, highlighting a 3-0 loss at the hands of Transylvania University Sunday, Oct. 6.
Chowning registered her seventh double-figure kills' match with 10 and also tied the team-high in digs (nine). Clark added four kills and a .213 attack percentage, while Barmes wound up with three kills, a .222 attack percentage and two blocks, one of which was solo. MU (4-14, 0-3 HCAC) gave the Pioneers (14-8, 3-0 HCAC) a stern test in the third set, tying it at 24-24 before TU posted the final two points to complete a 25-7, 25-14, 26-24 sweep.
Sophomore middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) and Clark shared the team lead with five kills apiece in a 25-19, 25-10, 25-11 loss to Hanover College that opened Homecoming 2013 weekend Saturday, Oct. 5. Clark also tallied three blocks.
Manchester University continues the conference slate Saturday, Oct. 12, with a trip to Mt. St. Joseph College.
