FORT WAYNE, IND. – Freshman outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) delivered her sixth double-digit kills' match of the season, leading Manchester University in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 loss at the hands of the University of St. Francis Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Chowning hammered 10 kills at the Cougar defense to lead MU (4-12). She also served up two aces, tying freshman defensive specialist/setter Heather Racine (Evansville, Ind.) for the team lead.
The Spartans battled St. Francis (10-10) throughout. They held leads at several stages, including an 18-17 edge in the second set and a 22-19 margin in the final set, before the home side managed rallies.
Other strong numbers for MU came from sophomore outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) (eight kills, 12 digs and a .259 attack percentage); sophomore middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) (eight kills, four blocks including two solo, and a .214 attack percentage); and senior defensive specialist Makenna Hamilton (Medaryville, Ind.) (15 digs).
Manchester University returns to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, hosting Hanover College Saturday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. and Transylvania University Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. Both matches are part of Homecoming 2013 festivities.
