Mt. St. Joseph battles past Black and Gold

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University closed its 2012 home regular season schedule with a hard-fought four-set loss to Mt. St. Joseph Saturday, Oct. 20.

The Spartans, falling to 11-16 overall and 2-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, answered a 25-20 loss in set one to the Lions with a 25-20 win of their own in the second set. MU kept it close throughout the third set, too, before a late run led MSJ to a 25-20 victory. The visitors ended the match with a similar run in the fourth set for a 25-19 decision.

The freshman outside hitting duo of Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) and Kelsie Thomas (Wabash, Ind.) topped Coach Kendra Marlowe's team. Pruden hammered 15 kills at MSJ's defense, while Thomas wrapped up her afternoon with 11. Freshman middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) added five kills and one solo and four block assists.

Manchester continues league play with a 7 p.m. first serve at Anderson Wednesday, Oct. 24, that begins the final week of the regular season.
