Individual and team honors are on the line at DePauw University's Blackstock Stadium in Greencastle, Ind., for the 2018 Indiana Little State Championships Saturday, April 14.

Spartan Shorts: Six men's and nine women's events are listed among the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's first five on the league's performance rankings with two weekends remaining until the 2018 championships. The men's efforts are spotlighted by the field events in regards to the jumps as sophomore Austin Roberts (Indianapolis, Ind.) has the second-longest long jump mark (21 feet, one-half inch) and freshman Landon Balch (Rensselaer, Ind.) ranks the same in the high jump (six feet, one and a half inches) while on the track senior Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) and freshman Nathan Weaver (Goshen, Ind.) are third-fastest in the 200 (Hollis – 22.7 seconds) and the 110 high hurdles (Weaver – 16.74 seconds). Among the women's team headlines, sophomore distance standout Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) is first in the 800 (2:20.93) and 1500 (4:43.97) and there's a strong field event representation, as senior Paige Keller (Greenville, Ohio) has cleared the second-highest pole vault attempt (11 feet, one and three-quarters inches), senior Kara Breuckman (Crown Point, Ind.) tops the hammer (154 feet, 11 inches), senior Whitney White (Portage, Ind.) holds the second-longest shot put toss (38 feet, 11 and three-quarters inches), senior Jacey Cauhorn (Kendallville, Ind.) is third in the discus (128 feet, 11 inches), and junior Laina Boggs (Frankfort, Ind.) has the second-best javelin throw (117 feet, nine inches)… Brueckman (hammer), Cauhorn (discus), Keller (pole vault) and Wappes' (1500) marks play well on the NCAA Division III list as they're each among the top 50. Breuckman sits 27th, Cauhorn is 45th, Keller is No. 36, and Wappes is 44th … Junior men's sprinter Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.), junior women's sprinter Dasia Beck (Indianapolis, Ind.), Cauhorn and Wappes return with strong performances a year ago at the Little State. Coughlin was third in the 100, and Beck and Wappes are returning champions in the 100 and 1500 with Cauhorn placing second in the javelin a year ago … Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Brian Cashdollar's teams close pre-HCAC action Saturday, April 21, at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational.
