NAPERVILLE, ILL. – Senior women's thrower Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind.) re-set a Manchester University program record Wednesday, May 17, at North Central College of Illinois' Gregorian Invitational, highlighting Spartans' efforts.
Aator launched the hammer 51.92 meters (170 feet, four inches), winding up third in the 17-thrower field. More importantly for Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Brian Cashdollar and his staff, it kept her among the best 22 distances on the NCAA Division III Track and Field Results Reporting System list.
Looking further into the Black and Gold's results on the Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium track, sophomore men's sprinter Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.) wound up fifth in the 200, clocking a 22.02-second line crossing. Distance event competition saw three more top 10 endings for Manchester University. Senior Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.), wrapping up a sparkling collegiate career, clocked a personal career best 18:20.62 in the 5000 for a sixth-place mark; fellow Class of 2017 team member Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) claimed a 4:48.61 in the 1500 to cross in 10th; and senior men's standout Alex Gudeman brought the curtain down on his Spartans' campaign with a third straight sub 9:30 in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:29.79) to end eighth.
The Spartans and the rest of NCAA Division III now await the announcement of the 2017 national championships' field Saturday, May 20.
