HCAC slate begins on high note

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Senior Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) posted a double bagel in number singles action and then got another one in doubles play with fellow Class of 2018 member Mariam Ali (Giza, Egypt) to spotlight Manchester University's 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual opener Saturday, Sept. 16.

Cordill dispatched of Mt. St. Joseph's Blake Nelson in short order 6-0, 6-0 and then joined Ali to do the same against Nelson and Hannah Brockman by an 8-0 count at the top doubles slot. Pitching shutouts wasn't reserved for her or her doubles partner though, as the freshman tandem of Avis McGovern (North Vernon, Ind.) and Karly Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) did so at number three doubles against MSJ's Cheyenne Burress and Sydney Stamper.

Coach Eric Christiansen's squad, after giving up just one game in doubles play, was just as stingy in singles action. Improving to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference, the Black and Gold was nicked for just 11 game losses with straight-set decisions at each turn.

Manchester University returns home to take on Grace College of Winona Lake, Ind., Thursday, Sept. 21.
