NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University used a strong offensive attack Tuesday, Oct. 30, to claim its seventh consecutive overall and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win.
The Spartans, moving to 11-6-1 overall and 7-1 in the league to keep pace with conference leader Hanover, out-shot league rival Anderson (3-13-2, 0-8 HCAC) 34-4 over the 90 minutes. Four of those attempts found the back of the Ravens' net.
A flurry of three goals from the 38th to 47th minutes turned out to be the difference. Sophomore midfielder Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.) rifled in her second overall and first game-winning score of the season in the 38th minute, while the dependable forward combination of junior Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) and sophomore Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) added the next two. Barta came back for a multiple-goal afternoon in the 82nd minute.
MU's offensive output was more than enough for the goalkeeping duo of junior Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) and freshman Adrianna Brown (Columbia City, Ind.). They combined for a shutout with a save apiece.
The Black and Gold close the regular season with a key late-season road clash at Rose-Hulman Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
NOTES: Crouse joined Barta in double-digit goal territory. Her sixth goal in the last seven matches marked the first time since 2006 MU's had two players reach double-figure goals in the same season.
