NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A pair of goals early in the first half helped move Hanover College past Manchester University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference clash Saturday, Oct. 5.
The Spartans nearly overturned the deficit with a strong second half comeback. Sophomore forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) got the ball into the back of the Panther net in the 48th minute off an assist from junior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.). MU (4-6-1 overall, 0-1 HCAC) also had other opportunities in the final 45 minutes, but Hanover (8-1-1, 1-0 HCAC) evaded them to take away a 2-1 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.), already the league leader in saves, added to her total with 13 in the face of a 24-13 Hanover shots advantage, Barta took seven tries of her own, with four on goal, to lead the Black and Gold.
The Spartans face a pair of key conference matches this week. A road trip to Franklin College Tuesday, Oct. 8, for a 7 p.m. kickoff starts it off, while Transylvania University comes to North Manchester Saturday, Oct. 12.
