The second half of the 2013-14 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule rolls along Saturday, Feb. 1, as Transylvania University visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

SPARTAN SHORTS: A balanced scoring attack and hard-nosed defensive effort guided the Spartans to their win at Franklin. Improving to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in league play to stay in the top five, they limited the host Grizzlies to just over 30 percent shooting from the field and a 22.2 percent mark from outside the arc. MU scored 15 of the game's first 22 points … .Junior forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) helped power the effort leading the way in scoring (13 points) and rebounding (seven boards). Sophomore guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.), who had entered the game on a strong offensive roll, continued along those lines tallying 12 points and grabbing two steals … Lang's scoring total was a personal single-game career high … Kruger's double-figure total was her fifth such in the last seven games. Her scoring average continues to climb in the span being up nearly three points (4.7 – 7.2) … Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) ran her multiple-assist string to 18 straight games with four … Hamilton was ranked in the top 20 of NCAA Division III, through games played Jan. 26, in assists (No. 11 – 6.2 pg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (No. 18 – 2.44). Sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) was among the top 50 in three-point field goal accuracy (No. 43 – 39.8) … Transylvania, with a 75-63 decision at home included, has captured six of the last eight in the series. Manchester University did gain wins over the Pioneers in 2011-12 and 2010-11.
