Spartan Shorts: Men – MU begins a string of five successive home games with Earlham's visit … The Black and Gold (3-13 overall, 2-7 HCAC) got their week off to a fast start with a thrilling 68-67 win at Bluffton Jan. 22. Sophomore guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.), playing in his first game since Dec. 14, joined junior forward Jon Thompson (Rushville, Ind.) in the season 30-point-game club with 30 points to go with three steals. He notched the game-winning bucket with just over two seconds remaining … Dolezal drained 12 free throws as part of his effort, the most since former standout Jordan Moss canned 13 in November 2011 … Dolezal and Thompson's achievement of each posting 30 in a game in a year marks the first Spartan duo to do so since 2004-05, as Eric Berger and Jamaal Wade reached the level that year … Thompson also had a big night at Bluffton with 19 points and a co-team high seven rebounds … Dolezal takes a string of four straight double figure scoring games into the weekend … Sophomore forward Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.) is keeping his name in a conference top 10 statistical category. He's sixth in blocked shots per game (.8) … MU leads the series with Earlham 4-3 since the Quakers joined the HCAC, but EC claimed both contests last season and took a 58-53 decision in Richmond in December. Prior to that, the Spartans had won eight in a row in the all-time record.

Women – The Spartans (8-8 overall, 5-4 HCAC) sit in a three-way tie for fourth in the conference as the second half curtain raises. Defending champion Transylvania (8-1) holds a one-game lead on Franklin (7-2) with Hanover in third (6-3) and then MU, Rose-Hulman and Bluffton all at 5-4 … Junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.), the league assist leader with a 6.2 per game average, reached a personal season milestone in a 60-56 loss to Bluffton Jan. 22 with her 100th assist. She's in the midst of reaching multiples in 16 straight games and has had eight-or-more in five of the last six … Senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.), the team's leading scorer at 11.6 points per game, compiled her eighth overall and third in the last four contests' double-figure scoring effort with 11 against Bluffton. She and junior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) are part of the conference's top 10 in blocked shots (Meiklejohn – T-8th – 1.1 pg/Hammond – 10th - .8 pg) … Sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) continues the program's strong conference stats' ratings. She's fifth in three-point field goal accuracy (40.3 pct) … MU is 6-1 in the series against Earlham since the Quakers joined the HCAC. The Spartans won this year's first meeting 61-57 at Richmond.

Franklin Series Continues: The second section of the Black and Gold's yearly battle with Franklin College is Wednesday, Jan. 29. The men host the Grizzlies, and the women make the trip south for a game at FC's Spurlock Center. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
