Spartan Shorts: Saturday's clash with the Quakers pits two of the current four 1-0 league squads against each other. Manchester University began its conference slate with a 60-41 win at Defiance College of Ohio, while Earlham topped Bluffton 67-38 Dec. 4 … Sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.), who helped spark the win over Defiance with 14 points behind four-of-six-made three-point baskets, is part of the HCAC's top five in three-point field goal percentage. Her 47.4 percent effort is third-best, while junior guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) tops the conference in assists (seven per game). … Hamilton also earned recognition on the NCAA Division III statistics report for games played through Dec. 1. She was fourth in the nation in assists per game for the period … The Spartans (2-3 overall, 0-1 HCAC) are led in scoring by Arterburn and senior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.). They each average 9.8 points per game. Other statistical leaders, through five games, are junior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) (5.4 rebounds per game); Hamilton (35 assists); junior forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) (11 steals); and sophomore guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.) (three blocked shots) … MU is 5-1 in the series against Earlham since the Quakers joined the HCAC. The two teams split last year's season outcomes with each winning at home.
A Look Ahead: MU travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for an HCAC twinbill against Rose-Hulman Saturday, Dec. 14. Two days later, the Spartan women's team concludes the pre-Christmas calendar with a home game against Trine University.
