Spartans put three in double figures to highlight Chicago trip

CHICAGO, ILL.- A key run late in the first half enabled the University of Chicago to break away to an 80-61 win over Manchester University Saturday, Nov. 23.

A 10-point roll from the Spartans (1-2) tied the game at 33-33 with 1:21 to go in the first half. UChicago (3-1) answered with its 9-2 stretch for a 42-35 halftime advantage and, after holding off an MU rally that closed the margin to nine early in the second half, continued to build on it until the final buzzer.

Junior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) and sophomore guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) turned in matching 11-point scoring totals that led the Black and Gold. Sophomore center Stephanie Barmes (Greenwood, Ind.) added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

MU returns to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Tuesday, Nov. 26, for a 6 p.m. tip-off against Calvin College of Michigan.
