Rose-Hulman slips past Black and Gold
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Junior guard Janelle Moss (Columbia City, Ind.) and freshman guard Hannah Field (Fort Wayne, Ind.) each contributed eight points to lead Manchester University in a 39-34 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference loss to Rose-Hulman Wednesday, Jan. 23.
The Spartans (7-11, 6-5 HCAC) opened the second half on a 13-3 stretch to lead by nine (27-18) with 12:58 to go and continued the hold the advantage by as much as eight (30-22) with just under eight minutes to play. From there, it was a 17-4 roll by the Fightin' Engineers (8-10, 4-7 HCAC) that determined the outcome. An 11-of-13 effort from the free throw line in the span keyed the comeback.
Moss went four-of-nine from the field, while Field hit a three-pointer and was five-for-seven at the free throw line to go with two steals and four rebounds as part of their eight-point efforts. Looking further on Manchester University's statistics, sophomore forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Jaimie Childress (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up six steals and dished out two assists. Junior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) also blocked two Rose-Hulman shot attempts.
The Black and Gold continue their current two-game home stand when Hanover College visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 1 p.m. tipoff Saturday, Jan. 26.
NOTES: Lang's eight-rebound performance marked the fourth time this season she's reached the total. .. Childress' six steals were the most in a game for a Spartans' player since former standout Alex Starkey ended with eight at Hanover in December 2011.
