NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University clouted 23 hits to highlight a twinbill against in-state rival St. Mary's College Monday, April 21.
Senior third baseman Kylie Planck (Valparaiso, Ind.) led the individual efforts. She went five-for-five with a pair of triples in game one and came back with a first inning single in the nightcap. Junior center fielder Shannon Stephan (Granger, Ind.) and freshman outfielder Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.) each added four hits.
St. Mary's (15-13) used early-inning rallies to forge 7-3 and 10-6 wins at Spartan Field. SMC plated five in the first in game one and then scored six in opening frame in game two. MU (9-21) had good opportunities to rally back in each case, leaving 16 on base in game one and seven on base in game two.
Manchester University closes out its 2014 home schedule and wraps up an eight-game home stand Wednesday, April 23. Huntington University pays a visit to North Manchester for a 3:30 p.m. start.
NOTES: Sophomore designated player/outfielder/catcher Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.) and Liston each moved into double figure numbers on current on-base strings. Niezgodski has reached safely in 11 straight, while Liston has done the same in 10 straight.
