Spartans take UW-Stevens Point to wire
CLERMONT, FLA. – Sophomore catcher Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.) drilled a pair of extra-base hits, leading a six-hit Manchester University attack Tuesday, March 18.
Niezgodski hammered a double and triple off UW-Stevens Point pitching to top the Spartans' offense in a 6-4 loss. She added two runs scored and an RBI.
Manchester University, falling to 2-5, also received an RBI single from freshman outfielder Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.) along with single hits from junior shortstop Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.), junior outfielder Shannon Stephan (Granger, Ind.) and sophomore designated player Jessica Chorak (Hammond, Ind.). The pitching tandem of sophomore MacKenzie Williams (Kendallville, Ind.) and junior Ashlea Nash (Gas City, Ind.) kept the Pointers off pace throughout until the visitors plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Black and Gold continue their Florida spring break games Thursday, March 20. They will take on Ripon College of Wisconsin at 6 p.m. and Fontbonne College of Missouri at 8 p.m.
NOTES: Liston increased her on-base string to five straight games, while Niezgodski reached base for a fourth consecutive contest … Liston takes a modest three-game hit streak into Thursday … Niezgodski's two-hit contest moved her into a tie with Nash for first in multiple-hit outings (two).
