NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. - Manchester University completed its spring 2014 regular season schedule with a narrowly-missed home victory against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover College Saturday April 26.
The Spartans (1-7 HCAC, 1-13 overall) found themselves down 2-1 after doubles play despite a 8-3 victory at number three from sophomore Matt Buncich (Goshen, Ind.) and freshman Trevor Jones (Connersville, Ind.) and a closely contested 9-8 (0) loss at the number two slot.
MU proved strong in singles with lone senior Miro Arguijo (Corpus Christi, Texas) leading the way with a hard fought four singles win against opponent Joshua Ruse 7-5, 6-4. Freshmen Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.), one singles, and Trent Baker (Edwardsburg, Mich.), six singles, each added to Manchester's total for the day taking down Hanover's Reid Clark 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) and Nathan Jones 6-4, 6-3 respectively. The Spartans would eventually fall 5-4 to the Panthers to end their 2014 campaign.
