CINCINNATI, OHIO – A strong offensive attack propelled Manchester University to its second straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Saturday, Oct. 26.
The Spartans out-shot host Mt. St. Joseph College of Ohio 16-10 and parlayed that advantage into a 3-1 edge on the scoreboard. Coach Dave Good's squad, moving to 3-11-2 overall and 2-5 in the HCAC, registered the first three goals of the match.
Freshman midfielder Matthew Jordan (Zionsville, Ind.), junior defender Mark Zinser (Guilford, Ind.) and sophomore defender Jacob Smith (Nappanee, Ind.) all found the back of the Lions' net over 72 minutes and four seconds, lifting MU to a 3-0 lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.), picking up his second win of the week in goal, nearly pitched his second overall and first solo shutout, but MSJ (3-14, 2-5 HCAC) rattled one home in the 83rd minute to break up the chance.
Manchester University closes its home season Tuesday, Oct. 29, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Anderson University.
NOTES: Jordan, Smith and Zinser each posted their first goals of the season … The Black and Gold have had 10 players tally scores this season.
