NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A long pass from the foot of junior forward/midfielder Ellis Whitt (Bourbon, Ind.) found fellow junior forward/midfielder Loic Youth (Detroit, Mich.) to deliver a game-winning goal for Manchester University Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Youth, taking Whitt's pass in stride, maneuvered past a Bluffton University defender and deftly tucked a shot into the left corner of Bluffton University's net for the eventual game-winning score in a 2-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win. Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.) had to fend off four Beaver shot on goal tries in the second 45 minutes to preserve the win.
Loic's second half score, which moved him into a three-way for the Black and Gold's goal lead with sophomore midfielder Julio Luevano (Aguascalientes, Mexico) and junior midfielder Zac Hansen (Muskegon, Mich.) at two each, helped MU (2-11-2 overall, 1-5 HCAC) snap an 11-match winless skein. Sophomore midfielder Simon Coleman (Toledo, Ohio) broke up a scoreless tie in the eighth minute, tallying his first goal of the season.
Bluffton (0-13 overall, 0-6 HCAC) out-shot its hosts 14-12. Luevano's two tries topped Manchester University's shot parade.
MU continues conference play Saturday, Oct. 26, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Mt. St. Joseph College of Ohio.
