Transylvania University of Lexington, Ken., pays a visit to North Manchester and Manchester University's Spartan Field Saturday, Oct. 12.

Spartan Shorts: Women –A goal in the 72nd minute from sophomore forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) lifted MU (5-6-1, 1-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) to a key 3-2 league road win at Franklin Tuesday. Junior forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) opened the match for the Spartans with a pair of scores ... Barta, due in large part to three multiple-goal contests and five matches in which she's scored three-or-more points, is tied for the HCAC lead in assists (six), is second in goals (nine) and points (24) and is among a tie for third in shots (36). Junior goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.), fresh off six saves against FC, moved one shy of a third straight 100-save campaign. She's currently the conference leader in the category and is also within the top five in save percentage (85.3) and goals-against average (1.46) … Barta and Willmann also graced the NCAA Division III statistics' report top 40 through matches played Oct. 6. Willmann was 21st in saves, and Barta was 32nd in assists … Transylvania holds an eight-match win streak in the series. MU's last victory occurred in 2006.

Men - The Black and Gold (1-8-2 overall, 0-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) look to end a recent string where they are 0-7-1 in their last eight matches ... MU gave Franklin a strong test Wednesday, keeping the Grizzlies at a 0-0 tie through the first 45 minutes before FC scored a pair of goals from the 55th through 57th minutes for a 2-0 win. Sophomore Julio Luevano (Aguascalientes, Mexico) had another strong performance in net with six saves … Junior midfielder Zac Hansen (Muskegon, Mich.) and sophomore goalkeeper Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.) continue to be a part of the conference's top five in assists and saves. Hansen is tied for fifth with three assists, and Thacker is tied for third with 45 saves.

Home and Away Week: The Black and Gold play a twinbill at Defiance College of Ohio Tuesday, Oct. 15, and host Earlham College Saturday, Oct. 19.
