Second half goals send Franklin past MU
FRANKLIN, IND. – Sophomore goalkeeper Julio Luevano (Aguascalientes, Mexico) produced a second successive strong start in net for Manchester University Wednesday, Oct. 10.
The Spartans' keeper, in just his second start, kept the host Franklin College Grizzlies off the board on Branigin Field at Faught Stadium for the opening 45 minutes. However, the host side, en route to a 2-0 victory, ramped up the offensive pressure in the second half, out-shooting MU (1-8-2 overall, 0-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) 13-3 with two of the attempts finding the back of the goal in a span that ranged from the 55th to 57th minutes.
Luevano finished his night with six saves in the wake of a 21-7 FC shots advantage. MU's offense was topped by the midfield trio of freshmen Ola Ladapo (London, England) and Matthew Jordan (Zionsville, Ind.) and senior Matt Gray (Anderson, Ind.). They combined for all seven overall and three on goal tries.
The Black and Gold continue conference play Saturday, Oct. 12. Transylvania University visits Spartan Field for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
