BLOOMINGTON, ILL. – Manchester put three players in double figures Saturday, Nov. 16, highlighting an 83-73 loss to Midwest Conference member Ripon College of Wisconsin.
The Spartans, aiming for a split at Illinois Wesleyan University's Beer Nuts Titan Classic, kept themselves within striking distance throughout. MU (0-2) held a 19-17 lead with less than 12 minutes left in the first stanza, which Ripon (1-1) answered with a 16-3 run for a 33-22 lead. Manchester University moved to as close as five points in the second half, but Ripon managed to rebuff every charge Coach Brad Nadborne's squad made.
Sophomore guard Brad Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.) continued his impressive early-season play, tallying 18 points on five-of-eight shooting from the field and an eight-of-10 effort from the free throw line. Freshmen guards Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) and Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) chipped in 10 points each. Sophomore forward Jarod Schrock (Logansport, Ind.) turned in a good effort, too, with seven points and four rebounds.
Manchester University resumes its season-opening road trip Monday, Nov. 18, going to NCAA Division I Wright State University of Ohio. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
