NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A healthy dose of junior starting pitcher Stephen Pinarski (Goshen, Ind.) coupled with another high-flying offensive attack led to a fourth successive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Tuesday, April 18.
Pinarski, evening his record at 1-1, stifled the league rival Anderson University Ravens to the tune of three runs on six hits with five strikeouts peppered in over six and two-thirds innings. While he was showing off his wares on the mound at Gratz Field, his teammates were giving the right-hander plenty of leeway.
Five Black and Gold players tallied multiple-hit outings. Sophomore right fielder Tyler LaFollette (Warsaw, Ind.) made the most of an opportunity at leadoff with two hits, one of which was a double, three RBI and four runs scored; junior left fielder Eric Knepper (Bremen, Ind.) slugged three hits, including his fourth home run of the season, while driving in three and scoring twice; freshman second baseman Nick Rush (Terre Haute, Ind.) continued to impress with a three-for-three effort at the plate which featured a double, two runs scored and two RBI; fellow first-year team member Joe Gallatin (Muncie, Ind.) resumed his strong maiden collegiate campaign with a pair of hits and a run scored; and third baseman Brandin Frazier (Wabash, Ind.) added to the freshman highlight reel with two hits and two runs scored. All of those accolades led to a 16-5 conference victory which moved Coach Rick Espeset's squad to 13-15 overall and 10-6 in the loop, good for a tie for second with Earlham College, just two games behind Rose-Hulman.
The Spartans take to the road Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, for a weekend league set at Transylvania University. Game times are 4:15 and 12 p.m.
