Earlham series ahead for MU

 A pivotal three-game series at Earlham College's Randal R. Sadler is next for Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Manchester University Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27.

Spartan Shorts: With six games remaining on the HCAC slate, the defending champions (21-11 overall, 15-4 HCAC) hold a three-game edge on second-place and preseason league favorite Anderson University. Rose-Hulman stands third, four games back, at 11-8, while a strong chase for the fourth and final postseason tournament bid continues with Transylvania, Earlham, Franklin and Bluffton all separated by a half a game and Hanover only two games behind the group …  Junior shortstop Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.), the reigning conference Hitter of the Week, has himself within the conference's top five in batting average (5th - .389), RBIs (2nd – 36) and home runs (2nd – seven). Other Black and Gold players residing in the same vicinity are junior outfielder Kyle Norris (Indianapolis, Ind.) (5th in stolen bases – 15), senior pitcher Josh Copp (Sharpsville, Ind.) who is the league's earned run average leader (1.87) and ranks among a tie for third in saves (four), and fellow senior pitcher Temujin Sery (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who is tied for second in wins (five) … MU's conference-only numbers are even more impressive. Over 19 games, the Spartans hold the lead in team batting average (.337) and staff ERA (3.29) … Several Black and Gold players go into the Earlham set harboring significant streaks. Junior outfielder Justin Miller (Yorktown, Ind.) and freshman first baseman Tailur Szarenski (Bluffton, Ind.) have 12 and 10-game hit streaks, respectively, in tow, while Norris has been on base in 20 consecutive games. Miller and Szarenski are also in double figures in the category at 11 and 10 in a row, while senior designated hitter Dan Maringer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has reached in 12 straight contests … A sweep at the College of Mt. St. Joseph of Ohio last weekend wrapped up MU's sixth consecutive year of 20-or-more wins.

Regular Season Winds Down: MU hosts Indiana Tech Tuesday, April 29, and Transylvania University Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.
