WESTFIELD, IND. – Manchester University hammered four doubles as part of a 14-hit attack to highlight a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill Saturday, March 22.
Senior designated hitter Dan Maringer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) clouted two two-baggers in game one, while sophomore second baseman Sean Knepper (Bremen, Ind.) and junior shortstop Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.) each did the same in the nightcap. However, the host Hanover Panthers (6-7 overall, 2-1 HCAC) broke up a 4-4 tie with two in the eighth in the opener en route to a 6-4 decision and then jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and hung on for a similar final in game two.
The outfield duo of junior Justin Miller (Yorktown, Ind.) and sophomore Chad Gindelberger (South Bend, Ind.) added an RBI each in game one. Game two saw Kimm record a sparkling effort at the plate with four hits and three RBIs, while Knepper had two hits and scored two runs.
MU (7-9 overall, 1-2 HCAC) is scheduled to open its 2014 home schedule Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, against Bluffton University of Ohio.
NOTES: Maringer increased his on-base streak to 15 consecutive games … Freshman first baseman Tailur Szarenski (Bluffton, Ind.) gathered a hit in each contest to up his hit streak to five straight contests … On the mound, senior Josh Copp (Sharpsville, Ind.) led the efforts. He fired four sterling innings in game two, not surrendering a run and striking out five while scattering five hits, all singles, in the stint.
