Spartans earn strong all-sport finishes

Manchester University registered first five rankings across the board on the final edition of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's 2017-18 all-sports trophy, released Monday and Tuesday, May 7-8.

MU totaled 49.5 points on the men's side and 48.3 on the women's section for a 97.8 finish, leaving them less than six points out of the top four and resuming an impressive skein of placing within the overall best five every year since the Commissioners Cup award began following the 2005-06 academic year. Rose-Hulman captured its seventh overall and fifth successive all-sports crown with 142 points.

The Spartans' overall ranking included ending fourth in the men's listing and fifth in the women's standings. Those numbers were guided by runner-up placings in cross country and outdoor track field for the women and tying for third in football along with fourth-place marks in cross country, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field and baseball in regards to the men.
